The Bengals like finding linebackers late in the NFL Draft and in undrafted free agency.
In fact., four backers on the two-deep depth chart were either undrafted (Vontaze Burfict, Vincent Rey, Emmanuel Lamur) or drafted on Day 3 (Flowers). The Bengals do their homework when it comes to linebackers, which often leads to them annually finding one or two contributors in the latter rounds or after the draft ends.
That may be the case this year with Montana State linebacker Alex Singleton. According to Draft Diamonds and Shaun DePasquale, the Bengals are hosting Singleton for a pre-draft visit. Singleton was among the best FCS defenders this past season while playing in the Big Sky Conference.
CBS Sports has Singleton ranked as the 78th-best outside linebacker prospect and 991st overall. Needless to say, there's a decent chance he goes undrafted. Because the Bengals are already hosting him for a pre-draft visit, they're getting familiar with Singleton, as is he with them. This could help him choose to sign with Cincinnati if he does in fact go undrafted.
This past season, Singleton racked up a team-leading 136 tackle and 15.0 tackles for loss. In 2013, Singleton was MSU’s leading tackler with 110 tackles to go with 16.5 tackles for loss.
Here are his highlights against Weber State this past season:
