Bengals Hosting WR Denarius Moore for a Visit

The Bengals are hosting former Oakland Raiders wideout Denarius Moore, ESPN's Adam Caplan reported earlier today.

Caplan adds that Moore would compete for the No. 4 receiver job, which is up in the air right now. The Bengals were hurt by their lack of depth at the position in the 2014 season, with Marvin Jones out and A.J. Green missing a few games. James Wright was starting to step up into this role, but he suffered a knee injury Nov. 30 at Tampa Bay that kept him out the rest of the season.

Moore, if he were added, along with James Wright and at least one rookie wide receiver would all be competing for the fourth spot. This would push the recently re-signed Brandon Tate back to at least the seventh receiver spot going into training camp. Barring an injury to any of these players, Tate would be on the outside looking in at making the 53-man roster. Tate's chances are lessened even further by the fact that the team is expected to draft a receiver with kick returning ability.

Moore has returned punts with the Raiders, but only returned two kickoffs for an average of 18.5 yards in his four years with the Raiders. Moore is known for his deep speed and playmaking ability. In his first three years with the Raiders, Moore was a starter averaging 15.8 yards per catch. However, in 2014, Moore lost his starting job to James Jones and Andre Holmes. He posted only 12 catches for 115 yards and 0 touchdowns last year. Moore visited the New York Jets two weeks ago but left without a contract.

If signed, Moore would be re-united with Offensive Coordinator Hue Jackson who was head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2010 and 2011. Moore was drafted in the 5th round of the 2011 draft out of Tennessee.
