The Bengals have waived injured wide receiver James Wright under the waived/injured category, the team announced on Tuesday. That means if Wright makes it through Waivers, he'll revert to the injured reserve list, ending his 2015 season before it ever began.
Wright played 11 games for Cincinnati as a rookie last season, with five catches for 91 yards and three rushes for 30 yards. He was set to take on a bigger role in the offense this year while continuing to make an impact on special teams.
It's a tough blow for the Bengals, but they have other receivers waiting to make an impact with Wright now out. With him out of the picture, guys like Denarius Moore, Brandon Tate and Mario Alford just saw their chances of making the 53-man roster increase significantly.
There's also a report from Bengals.com that the team is looking at free agent receivers to possibly sign.
It’s believed the Bengals plan to take a look at a group of free-agent veteran wide receivers before training camp begins Friday as they hunt for depth behind the top three of A.J. Green, Marvin Jones, and Mohamed Sanu.
Cincinnati also announced that linebacker Vontaze Burfict, linebacker Sean Porter, and defensive end Margus Hunt have been placed on Active/PUP List while offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi had been placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury List. We'll have more on those moves later.
