Clint Boling back at Bengals practice; AJ McCarron, Andrew Whitworth sit out

After a scare on Monday, Clint Boling made his return to Bengals practice Wednesday.

As expected, the Bengals were without backup QB AJ McCarron to open day 11 of training camp on Wednesday.

McCarron, who's dealing with either a rib injury or chest strain, or who knows what at this point, is expected to miss Friday's preseason game vs. the Giants. That would have been his first live NFL game action since being drafted in the fifth round out of Alabama in the 2014 NFL Draft. McCarron did not play one down of NFL football in 2014 after starting the year on the PUP list.

Also sitting out Wednesday was left tackle Andrew Whitworth, though it was a typical veteran's rest day for him. With him out, Jake Fisher opened with the first-team offense at left tackle. It wouldn't be surprising to see Whit sit out Friday's preseason opener to allow Fisher and other lineman to get more reps.

Cornerback Brandon Ghee also sat out Wednesday after suffering a hamstring injury during Tuesday's session. The oft-injured DB is already facing an uphill battle to make the final 53-man roster.

Making his return Wednesday was left guard Clint Boling, who left Monday's practice with a knee injury and sat out Tuesday. It looks like it was nothing serious, though the team is being precautions with him given he tore his ACL just two years ago. He will be slowed back into practice.

Defensive end Michael Johnson, linebacker Sean Porter, linebacker Vontaze Burfict, and offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi all remained out.
