Week 1 of the NFL preseason is upon us as football is finally back in our lives.
You must remember though that the preseason, especially Week 1, features mostly backups and fringe roster players simply fighting for a spot on their respective team's final 53-man rosters. We'll be lucky to see the regular starters in for one series, if they even play at all.
Thursday night
Still, football is football, and we're in for 16 matchups over the next four days, beginning with the New England Patriots hosting the Green Bay Packers on the NFL Network Thursday night. Tom Brady isn't expected to play, which means we'll get a great look at backup Jimmy Garoppolo. Depending on if Brady's four-game suspension holds up, we could be seeing a lot of Garoppolo this year, so it will be interesting to see how he does in the preseason.
Friday night
Friday night will feature the NFL debut of Marcus Mariota as his Tennesse Titans faces the Atlanta Falcons on the NFL Network. Mariota was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft after winning the Heisman Trophy last year at Oregon.
Saturday night
As for the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, Jameis Winston will make his NFL debut Saturday night when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Minnesota Vikings, also on the NFL Network.
If you want to watch these games on TV, check out 506.com for local listings. Depending on where you live, your team's game will likely be shown on your local CBS, FOX, NBC, or ABC affiliate.
NFL Game Pass
If you want to watch games online, there's a big change in how to do so this year. You used to be able to buy NFL Preseason Live for $20 and watch every preseason game. However, this year the NFL has combined NFL Preseason Live and NFL Game Rewind to form NFL Game Pass, which is $99.99 for the season with a free 7-day trial.
This includes all NFL Preseason live streams, but only replays of the regular season games. The preseason live stream is great, but many users will not want to pay the high price just to watch on demand replays of the NFL games. This package does include live audio for the NFL games and condensed games as well as other options.
NFL GamePass is available on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and will come to Xbox, and Apple TV.
Here's a look at how to watch this week's game on TV or online.
