With the NFL preseason entering Week 3, we take a look around the AFC North to find the division's biggest storylines.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Martavis Bryant suspended 4 games by NFL
The NFL suspended Steelers WR Martavis Bryant four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy on Thursday. Bryant is appealing the ruling, but assuming it holds up, this is a massive blow to an offense already missing Le'Veon Bell for Weeks 1 and 2. Bryant was inactive for Weeks 1-6 last season, but scored eight touchdowns the rest of the way as he helped the Steelers' offense become one of the league's best.
With him out, Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton will be the top two WRs. Who steps up behind them remains to be seen, but third-round pick Sammie Coates figures to get a lot of chances.
Bud Dupree finding role in Steelers defense
The Steelers drafted Kentucky pass-rusher Bud Dupree in the first round of this year's draft in hopes the All-SEC performer could upgrade their putrid pass rush in 2015 as they look to contend for a Super Bowl. After tossing up duds in his first two preseason games, Dupree broke through against the Packers last Sunday with two tackles for loss, a sack and several other QB pressures. It's just one preseason game, but it looks like Dupree is beginning to find his niche within Pittsburgh's defense.
Baltimore Ravens
Ravens still without Breshad Perriman
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Thursday that there's still no timetable for WR Breshad Perriman to return to practice while recovering from a sprained PCL, and that his recovery gone slower than expected. Perriman should miss the entire preseason, and is looking questionable for Week 1 vs the Broncos.
Baltimore grabbed Perriman with the 26th-overall pick in this year's draft, as they viewed him as the perfect WR to replace Torrey Smith, who left to sign with the 49ers this offseason. Like Smith, Perriman is more of a deep-ball specialist who will stretch the defense and open up the rest of the field for other Ravens to work with. The 6'2", 212-pound Perriman had 50 catches for 1,044 yards (20.9 avg.) and nine scores in 2014 as a junior before declaring for the draft.
Ravens ink Will Hill to extension
The Ravens signed starting safety Will Hill to a one-year extension through 2016, the team announced Thursday. It's a sign the Ravens believe Hill has turned his life around after the former Giants star was cut early in 2014 for another drug suspension. Hill has been busted for both substance abuse and PED use since going undrafted out of Florida in the 2012 draft.
Hill signed with Baltimore last year and didn't become eligible to play until midway through the year, but eventually became their starting strong safety. That's the same role he'll have this year.
Cleveland Browns
Johnny Manziel could miss rest of preseason
Browns backup QB Johnny Manziel has been shut down from throwing because of elbow soreness, which the team revealed has been a problem for him since high school. Manziel has not thrown a pass since Sunday and he's unlikely to play in Saturday's exhibition at Tampa Bay.
Cleveland may hold him out the rest of the preseason, and they have signed free agent QB Pat Devlin to give them some depth while Manziel is sidelined. Manziel wasn't expected to push Josh McCown for the starting job, but this is still a bad sign for his development after a disastrous rookie year.
