Update: Today's practice has ended, but check out the major storylines that emerged below.
**
Bengals training camp begins at 6 p.m. tonight, for the first evening practice the team has had.
The first report out of camp is that Marvin Jones will not be practicing today, along with Vontaze Burfict. While Burfict is no surprise, Jones missing more time is disheartening to say the least.
Vontaze a Burfict and Marvin Jones not dressed for practice, but both are out here. #Bengals @FOX19

As has been the case for the past week, some of the vets will be getting rest days today. Adam Jones is one of them.
There'll be some rest days at tonight's practice. Adam Jones is one

Rey Maualuga continues to do work on the side with Chip Morton, the Bengals strength and conditioning coach. The other players on the PUP/NFI lists will be doing the same. That includes Vontaze Burfict, Cedric Ogbuehi and Sean Porter.
Marvin Jones, Maualuga not working
— Geoff Hobson (@GeoffHobsonCin) August 7, 2015
Onterio McCalebb and Sam Montgomery are two more players being held out today. McCalebb was on crutches last week with a leg injury that has not been talked about much.
Three members of the officiating crew are in town this weekend to update the players on new rules for the season. They'll also be throwing flags at practice tonight and will be in attendance for the mock scrimmage at Family Day tomorrow.

Cedric Peerman is practicing today after not finishing yesterday's session.
Cedric Peerman took a shot in practice yesterday & didn't finish the session. Not out today. #Bengals
— Jim Owczarski (@JimOwczarski) August 7, 2015
Though he's not working with the running backs, per Geoff Hobson:
Peerman not working in RB group

A.J. Green in slow motion is fun!
The Bengals are getting some special teams work in early in practice including practicing onside kicks.
Working kickoff coverages/returns. Tate, Alford, Gio fielding kicks.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Mario Alford isn't starting the evening on a high note.
Darrin Simmons: "Get the goddamn ball, Mario" after Alford left a squib kick roll past him for Gio, bit took a long time.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Leon Hall is even working with the special teams unit tonight.
Leon Hall running with a punt team otherwise mostly made up of rookies and backups. #Bengals
— Matt Edwards (@Matt_WLWT) August 7, 2015
The Bengals are likely looking for ways to use undrafted wide receiver, Jake Kumerow on special teams. Here's how they're experimenting with him today:
Giving Jake Kumerow a chance as the hands guy on onside kicks.
— Brennen Warner (@BrennenWarner) August 7, 2015
Seems like the Bengals are about to get down to business nearly 40 minutes into practice:
After more than a half hour of special teams work, #Bengals finally transition to 11-on-11
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
Andy Dalton isn't starting out the evening well.
Dalton has thrown like four passes and badly overthrown his receivers twice.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
And, neither is AJ McCarron.
AJ McCarron threw behind Greg Little, expecting a hook. Little continued running. Miscommunication.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
QBs not impressive early in 11-on-11. Andy Dalton 1-for-3. Forced awkward high throw to Rex Burkhead and was high on another to Ryan Hewitt
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
The linebackers and defensive backs are slowing into practice this evening.
Mostly just walkthrough and concepts for the LB and DBs. https://t.co/jrrl25mBb3

Dalton and Tyler Eifert have been working well together throughout training camp.
Bengals working two minute drills.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Dalton has hit Eifert three straight times during two minute; usually wide open....
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Dalton is picking up steam and connecting with multiple receivers, including Burkhead who's working with the wide receivers today, as he has been often in training camp.
Dalton goes 8 of 9 in two minute drill. Only incompletion was an intentional spike. 4 passes went to Eifert. #Bengals
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 7, 2015
Looked like Andy Dalton's offense faced the third-team defense. Had four first downs (two to Tyler Eifert, one to A.J. Green, one to Sanu)
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
In 2 minute drill, Dalton completed all 8 passes to Eifert, Green, Sanu and Burkhead. Then he downed the ball inside 20 for a FG. #Bengals
— Zach Wells (@WellsZach) August 7, 2015
McCarron continues to struggle, but will the "let McCarron start" Tweets and pleas from fans continue too?
McCarron 2 for 5 in 2 minute drill with a sack. One of the completions likely would have been a sack as well. #Bengals
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 7, 2015
Communication seems to be issue for A.J. McCarron and WRs vs. first-team D. Had good "protection." Put in quotes because they're in shorts
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
First team defense (without 2 of top 3 corners) easily shut down McCarron's second team offense.
— Brennen Warner (@BrennenWarner) August 7, 2015
Throwing balls high seems to be a theme for the Bengals quarterbacks.
PJ Dawson dropped James Wilder, who dropped the ball on the next play. A bit high by Josh Johnson.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Josh Johnson 2 for 4 in 2 minute drill with 3 scrambles. #Bengals
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 7, 2015
Josh Johnson just wants to throw short or take off and run
— Brennen Warner (@BrennenWarner) August 7, 2015
Good news regarding the offensive line, but you're not surprised about that, are you?
Protection was so good that AJ McCarron had a long time to attempt one pass. Shouted a young fan from sideline: "throw the ball already."
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
Dre Kirkpatrick is checking in with the refs.
Well, they still need a good No. 2 TE, but the folks here seem pleased with what they've got here now, buddy. https://t.co/6SlF7H6ZCo
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
More on the quarterback front:
All 3 QBs didn't attempt throws downfield in 2-minute drill.Dalton dinking & dunking for FG.McCarron holding on too long then throwing short
— Brennen Warner (@BrennenWarner) August 7, 2015
And, with about 45 minutes left in today's practice, the Bengals are returning to special teams work.
Friday night training camp is a lot of special teams. The baseball equivalent of watching a team practice sac fly's.
— Jeremy Rauch (@FOX19Jeremy) August 7, 2015
The most special teams practice continues.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
A.J. Green has been matched up frequently today with Darqueze Dennard who is getting additional first team reps in with Adam Jones getting a rest day.
A.J. Green all day, beating Dennard. https://t.co/VFlED7soPk
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Josh Kirkendall has favorable things to say regarding Rex Burkhead playing wide receiver today.
Rex Burkhead, the Bengals next great WR. https://t.co/oDzAdfet0F
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Another Dalton throw, though this time an incompletion.
Tough catch for anyone other than A.J Green. https://t.co/vcJj0PR3gb
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Denarius Moore hauls one in for a touchdown.
TD to Moore. https://t.co/OfO5xxwkm3
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
McCarron ends 11-on-11s with a completion.
Last 11-on-11 for the day. AJ McCarron opens in red zone with a well-placed pass over LB Marquis Flowers to TE Tyler Kroft. #Bengals
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
Looks like Burfict is spending some time on his cell phone during today's practice.
Keep doubting me pic.twitter.com/ndoGYejUTk
— Vontaze Burfict (@King55Tez) August 7, 2015
In other "not what you want to read" news:
1st team O really struggling v 3rd string D: Dalton 0-for-3 with a sack off a bad snap. #Bengals
— Jim Owczarski (@JimOwczarski) August 7, 2015
Ugly series for Dalton from 22. Goes 0 for 4, misses badly on throws to Eifert and A.J. against second team D. #Bengals
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 7, 2015
#Bengals seem sluggish today. Tempo doesn't seem as crisp overall as it was earlier in camp. Andy Dalton has a lot of out-of-rhythm throws
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
Andy Dalton's been too high and was just too low on an attempt to Giovani Bernard on a screen. Dalton looked good on two-min drill, though.
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
Jake Fisher is now limping to the sidelines:
Jake Fisher on the ground momentarily, looked like an ankle. Got up on his own and limped back.
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Helmet still on and he's just watching practice now. Lot of "Oh no's"
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
Dalton and Green connect:
All day. https://t.co/9ACPQ78eZF
— Josh Kirkendall (@Josh_Kirkendall) August 7, 2015
A catch by Brandon Tate.
Brandon Tate snagged it. https://t.co/LiCT6JJhZQ

And another Dalton to Gio Bernard completion.

Dalton to Jeremy Hill.

Clark Harris is playing catch with a young boy in the stands.

With practice nearly over, Coley Harvey notes McCarron did look better in the later part of the evening.
Altho QBs had rough moments, AJ McCarron finished better than he started. Three of his last eight throws completed in tight windows #Bengals
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 7, 2015
That's a wrap on practice.
The Men bring it up. #Bengals pic.twitter.com/NipXoambr1
— Jim Owczarski (@JimOwczarski) August 7, 2015
Sluggish night practice for offense. Dalton 13 of 23, McCarron 9 of 14 #Bengals
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 7, 2015
After practice update on Marvin Jones:
Hue on Marvin Jones: "He'll be out here soon." #Bengals @FOX19
— Jeremy Rauch (@FOX19Jeremy) August 7, 2015
Lewis actually liked McCarron's performance tonight. It seems some of the early Tweets were about pre-emptive and that McCarron finished the night much better than he started it.
Coaches encouraged by what they saw from AJ McCarron today. Marvin Lewis, channeling Ice Cube: "Today was a good day." #Bengals
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) August 8, 2015
McCarron also had maybe his best day yet. Still held the ball too long on a few snaps, but was a solid 9 of 14 and finished strong. #Bengals
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 8, 2015
