Ben Roethlisberger carted to locker room after suffering leg injury during Steelers vs Rams

This doesn't look good for Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers.

Joshua Lindsey-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers are holding their breaths after Ben Roethlisberger was forced from Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams with a leg injury.

The play happened in the third quarter with Pittsburgh barely holding onto a 9-3 lead. The Rams recorded back-to-back sacks on 1st and 2nd down with 5:06 left in the quarter, and during the second one, Roethlisberger was left lying on the ground holding his lower left leg. He was then carted to the locker room for further evaluations to be done, but this looks like a scary situation for the Steelers quarterback. The team has also ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

With him out for the time being, Michael Vick is now the Steelers QB. This comes with All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell returning from a two-game suspension this week. With him back, the Steelers offense could survive without Roethlisberger, but they wouldn't be anything more than a fringe playoff team, if even that.

Needless to say, this is a major developing story for both the Steelers and the rest of the AFC.
