Bengals notes on Mike Nugent's two missed kicks on an ugly day for kickers across the league, plus Tyler Eifert on recovering from his first game back and Cedric Ogbuehi's new rotation.
In another word: Average. And the third-year defensive coordinator is surprised, and bothered by it. “No question,” he said. “I don't like where our numbers are right now. But it's our doing. A lot of the plays that we've given up have been our error.”
Some reactions to Bengals receiver A.J. Green's remarkable Hail Mary catch just before halftime of the Bengals' 31-17 win against the Browns on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium:
Cedric Ogbuehi and Eric Winston rotated at right tackle during Sunday’s 31-17 victory over the Browns and even though Ogbuehi allowed two sacks in his 51 snaps and Winston helped blow open running back Jeremy Hill’s 74-yard touchdown run in one of his 10 snaps, the Bengals think their young right tackle showed improvement. So did he.
It’s good to get back to winning football games. The production of the offense was outstanding overall. There are some things to clean up and continue to do better, of course.
This is why the Bengals believe that Hue Jackson is going to turn things around in Cleveland. As long as he has the players and after Sunday’s 31-17 victory over the Browns at sold-out Paul Brown Stadium there was no question who’s got them and who doesn’t.
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert said he was happy to feel sore following his season debut against the Cleveland Browns. Sore is normal. Anything other than that is not.
Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth is still in the concussion protocol after leaving Sunday's game early with a head injury, according to coach Marvin Lewis. Lewis said he expects Whitworth to be out of the protocol by Thursday, which is when the team leaves for its trip to London to face the Washington Redskins.
A.J. Green's teammates are exasperated with him and it’s easy to figure out why. As much as they poke and prod and tell him to enjoy the moment, he just doesn’t celebrate enough for their liking. So they have to do it for him.

Though Pittsburgh trailed by just 4, the game had been finished before LeGarrette Blount punched in a touchdown on the next play.
