What can eight receptions for 169 yards and a score on a one-handed Hail Mary catch can get you these days? Apparently not much, or at least not elite status among the latest NFL1000 Rankings by Bleacher Report.
A.J. Green showed, again, why he's the best wide receiver in the league with a tremendous game on Sunday against the Browns, but he was only the seventh ranked wide receiver, behind players like Marquise Lee of the Jaguars or Davante Adams of the Packers in B/R's Week 7 ranking. Green was facing one of the worst passing defense in the NFL, but he also had two spectacular one-handed catches. He wasn't even the best graded in the hands category, with 20 points out of 25 and tied for third best with several other players. That's especially weird since he caught every target that came his way on Sunday.
Kevin Zeitler, who had a terrific game and was key to open up the running game, was the top guard for Week 7, leading the power category as well with 18 points out of 20.
Meanwhile Andy Dalton had his best rank of the season at 10th, which still seems way too low, thanks to a very good decision-making grade of 15 out of 20 that was only surpassed by Aaron Rodgers of the Packers and Philip Rivers of the Chargers. Not too shabby. Jeremy Hill came in at seventh among running backs, also had his best rank of the year, with a pretty consistent overall grade after destroying the Browns with 168 rushing yards on only nine carries. He also added two catches for 24 yards. Defensive end Carlos Dunlap keeps putting it together and was the fifth highest ranked player at his position while also notching the best grade in the pass rush category with 23 points out of 25.
Shawn Williams, in spite of posting huge numbers on Sunday with a pick, a sack and a tackle for a loss, was only the 25th best strong safety - out of 39, with the worst grade in the tackling category, 13 points out of 20.
Cedric Ogbuehi was yet again very bad in the eyes of Bleacher Report's analysts, ranking 28th out of 31 right tackles with a grade of 65 points that tied his lowest of the year. Middle linebacker Rey Maualuga is not impressing either and recorded his worst rank - 43rd out of 51. Mike Nugent, lest we forget, struggled mightily on Sunday and was only better ranked than Packers kicker Mason Crosby.
Punter Kevin Huber also had a tough day and was only better than three other players, being especially bad in the hang time category with 11 points out of 20 and in kick accuracy, with 25 out of 45.
One player who keeps disappointing week after week is right end Michael Johnson, who got exposed by the Browns' read option plays all day and finished 49th out of 53 ranked defensive ends.
