UPDATE: Bob Holtzman has a new report on Tyler Eifert:

Was just told by a source close to Tyler Eifert that he has not ruled out trying to play on Sunday. It is a back injury, but it's believed to be a day to day thing. I was told earlier by someone who would know that Eifert would not play Sunday. That's still the most likely scenario.

There seems to be a lot of uncertainty regarding the extent of the injury.

UPDATE: According to Bengals.com, "it's believed to be unclear if it (Eifert's back injury) is a short or long-term problem." And, the injury occurred while running a route in a non-contact injury during Monday's practice. The practice was not open to reporters.

UPDATE: A back injury has been added to the injury report for Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert. ESPN’s Bob Holtzman has reported that it’s not believed to be serious, but Eifert will not play on Sunday in Dallas. Here’s Holtzman’s report:

Here's what I know about Bengals TE Tyler Eifert: I'm told he was offsite today seeing a doctor about a new injury (not his ankle). Sources tell me it's not believed to be serious, but I'm told he will not play Sunday in Dallas.

UPDATE: Eifert is reportedly dealing with a new injury, and the setback isn’t in regards to his ankle.

Tyler Eifert was missing from Bengals practice on Wednesday and now, a report has surfaced from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Katherine Terrell that Eifert suffered a setback in his recovery.

Eifert went down with an ankle injury during the Pro Bowl in January and underwent offseason ankle surgery. After sitting out for all of the summer and preseason, Eifert returned to Bengals practice on September 21st and has been limited in all practices since. The hope was that Eifert would make his 2016 season debut in Week 5 in Dallas.

On Monday, Katherine Terrell reported she witnessed Eifert limping in the locker room, something she had not noticed before.

When asked on Wednesday about Eifert’s status for Sunday, head coach Marvin Lewis smiled and said, "We'll see."

Eifert was supposed to appear on the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Beyond the Stripes show on Tuesday night, which is recorded live. But, he cancelled on Tuesday morning. Today, Eifert was not seen in the locker room by the media in the morning, and did not attend practice in the afternoon. It’s possible he is traveling to visit his doctor.
