Bengals vs Browns inactives for Week 14 include A.J. Green, James Wright

The Bengals are without two receivers this week, which means rookies Cody Core and Alex Erickson will be counted on more.

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced their inactives list for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns and it includes a number of injured players.

For Cincinnati, the following players are out:

  • Wide receiver A.J. Green
  • Defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry
  • Wide receiver James Wright
  • Safety Derron Smith
  • Tight end C.J. Uzomah
  • Offensive lineman Christian Westerman
  • Long-snapper Clark Harris

The surprise here is that quarterback Jeff Driskel is active for his first NFL game. There’s no clear explanation for this as it would have been nice to see rookie offensive lineman Christian Westerman active for the first time. So, it’ll be interesting to see if the Bengals have a plan for Driskel. In San Francisco, where he spent the preseason, Driskel was utilized on special teams. So, maybe the Bengals have a surprise up their sleeves.

Veteran lineman Eric Winston will once again start at right tackle. Former starter Cedric Ogbuehi is now the backup left tackle behind Andrew Whitworth. Jake Fisher will be the backup right tackle now.

A.J. Green is out once again with his strained hamstring, as is James Wright with his knee injury. This means rookie Cody Core will be active once again as he looks to carve out a role in this offense. Fellow rookie Alex Erickson will also be getting more receiver snaps in addition to his return man duties.

Derron Smith is out again with a thigh injury, leaving the Bengals with a thin safety group. The good news is rookie Clayton Fejedelem has been giving the team good snaps that normally go to Smith, so it hasn’t been a big loss thus far.

Backup tight end C.J. Uzomah is also out again with his calf issue, leaving Tyler Kroft to be the No. 2 guy next to Tyler Eifert.

With Wallace Gilberry out due to his calf injury, both Margus Hunt and DeShawn Williams are active again. Hunt was inactive when Gilberry was healthy since he can play both end and tackle, and Williams was inactive for every game up to last week. But the Bengals would probably rather see the younger guys more anyhow.

Clark Harris is also out again as he deals with a groin injury, originally suffered against the Bills. Tyler Ott will once again come to the rescue at long snapper.

As for the Browns, their inactives are:

  • Quarterback Josh McCown
  • Quarterback Kevin Hogan
  • Offensive lineman Gabe Ikard
  • Defensive lineman Tyrone Holmes
  • Safety Trae Elston
  • Offensive lineman Shon Coleman
  • Wide receiver Jordan Payton (suspended)

The Browns came into this game as healthy as they’ve been all season, as no one was listed on the final injury report. All of their inactives are healthy scratches.

Robert Griffin III came off of I.R. and is now starting at quarterback for just the second time this season. He’s been out since Week 1 with a shoulder injury, but Cleveland thinks he gives them the best chance of winning their first game of the season.
