Late in the second quarter, Burfict was forced from the game with what appeared to be a head injury. He was hit helmet to helmet by Steelers guard David DeCastro while attempting to tackle Le’Veon Bell.
After the play, Burfict was woozy as he got up with the assistance of a referee. He was then sent off the field to be examined by trainers for a head injury. Burfict was escorted to the locker room after showing concussion-like symptoms. The team has since announced Burfict is being evaluated for a concussion.
There isn’t a player in the NFL tougher than Burfict, but if this a concussion, the team will need to hold him out of action for the rest of the game. It has not been confirmed Burfict does in fact have a concussion.
If he’s out for the rest of the game, the Bengals will rely heavily on Vincent Rey, Karlos Dansby, Rey Maualuga, and Nick Vigil at linebacker to contain Bell and the Pittsburgh offense.
