Mohamed Sanu's best option might be to remain with the Bengals

Rumors are swirling that Mohamed Sanu is not interested in returning to the Bengals. But if he's looking for a bigger role, Cincinnati just might be the perfect place.

If we're to believe the rumors, Mohamed Sanu will be a New York Giant, or a Cleveland Brown. Or anything other than a Cincinnati Bengals player in 2016. He's reportedly interested in a bigger role on offense, which would be hard for him to get on the Bengals with A.J. Green, Tyler Eifert and other capable pass catchers competing with him for targets.

Last season, Sanu totaled just 394 yards and 0 touchdowns receiving after a 2014 campaign that saw him step into a WR2 and even WR1 role for the first time. In 2014, he had 790 yards and 5 touchdowns receiving. However, he did have more rushing yards (71 to 51) and rushing touchdowns (2 to 0) this past season.

Sanu also made critical plays in big games against the Broncos and Seahawks. And, he even cured his problem with drops, as pointed out by Cincy Jungle's Connor Howe. For highlights of Sanu's 2015 season, watch the following video:

But while Sanu's frustration with his lack of involvement in the offense is understandable, it is unlikely that he will be the top option on another team, especially a contending one. That is not due to to a lack of work ethic or versatility, but rather a lack of elite athleticism. Therefore, if Marvin Jones is not re-signed, Sanu's best option will actually be to come to terms on a multi-year contract with the Bengals, where his ability to secure grabs over the middle complements Green's high-flying game nicely.

Also, it is hard to ask for a better quarterback scenario than the one he'd have in Cincinnati, where he'd be on the receiving end of the passes of a rapidly-improving young quarterback in Andy Dalton. Sure Eifert and Green will take most of the redzone targets, but if Dalton continues on his current trajectory, Sanu will get his share.
