With the 14th pick in the 2016 Cincy Jungle Community NFL Mock Draft, Oakland Raiders GM, Kibbz selects...
Mackenzie Alexander, CB, Clemson
It may seem like a reach to grab Mackenzie Alexander at this point, but it is not like the Raiders haven't reached for a prospect often before. Also there is a lot of reasoning behind this pick. A major problem for the Raiders has been DJ Hayden, their first round pick from 2013. His poor play is signaling the end of his time in Oakland. While Hayden is set to move to safety this season, there is a dire need to get somebody to play opposite Sean Smith. Vernon Hargreaves would be the ideal pick but has already gone so here is why Alexander is the best pick at this point.
His style of play suits the Raiders and Alexander is one of the most pure, lock-down corner prospects you will see in the draft. While he had zero interceptions during his two seasons, he boasts the best reception rate of receivers he faced at only 33 percent. His aggressive style of play and the intensity he brings to every down he plays will allow time for edge rushers like Mario Edwards Jr., Khalil Mack and Aldon Smith to get to the passer.
There is obviously a need at defensive tackle but this draft has so much quality there that there will be one lying around in the second round.
Here is how I imagine Oakland's first four rounds:
- 1st Round - Mackenzie Alexander - CB - Clemson
- 2nd Round - Vernon Butler - DT - Louisiana Tech
- 3rd Round - Joshua Perry - OLB - Ohio State
- 4th Round - Terron Beckham - RB (didn't play college football)
Mock Draft Order:
1. Titans - OT Laremy Tunsil, Ole Miss
2. Browns - QB Jared Goff, California
3. Chargers - CB Jalen Ramsey, FSU
4. Cowboys - DE Joey Bosa, OSU
5. Jaguars - LB Myles Jack, UCLA
6. Ravens - RB Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State
7. 49ers - DL DeForest Buckner, Oregon
8. Eagles - CB Vernon Hargreaves, Florida
9. Buccaneers - DE Shaq Lawson, Clemson
10. Giants - OT Ronnie Stanley, Notre Dame
11. Bears - LB Leonard Floyd, Georgia
12. Saints - DT Sheldon Rankins, Louisville
13. Dolphins - LB Reggie Ragland, Alabama
14. Raiders - CB Mackenzie Alexander, Clemson
