The Bengals' 2016 schedule will be released at 8:00 p.m. tonight, but according to a report from NJ.com, the Bengals will open the 2016 season against the New York Jets in New Jersey.
The source spoke to NJ Advance Media on a condition of anonymity, per the report.
If this news is true, it would mean the Bengals are continuing the NFL's longest streak of not opening the NFL season at home. This would be the seventh consecutive year the Bengals open on the road. Usually, that is because of the Reds playing at home on opening weekend, but this year, the Reds are actually away on opening weekend.
Also per the NJ.com report, the game will be played on September 11th, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Security is sure to be extra tight at MetLife Stadium if this report of the Jets opening against the Bengals on September 11 proves true.
What do you think about the potential for the Bengals to open the season in New Jersey against the Jets? The Bengals are 8-17 all time against the Jets but won the last matchup in 2013 49-9 in an impressive performance, that featured one of Marvin Jones' best games in stripes. I for one would be so excited about this as a New Yorker planning to attend the game!
