NFL Trade Rumors: Bengals trying to move up in NFL Draft for Josh Doctson?

New, comments

Is Josh Doctson or any receiver in this draft worth trading up in the eyes of the Bengals?

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

If the Bengals want to get the best wide receiver in this draft, they'll likely need to move up to secure his services.

Is Josh Doctson the best receiver in this draft?

If he is, teams like the Bengals will certainly be looking to trade up to pick him. He's probably not falling all the way down to the 24th pick, but moving up to get him may be an option

NFL.com's Gil Brandt is reporting that Cincinnati may look to do just that and get the TCU product:

You could make a great case for the TCU Horned Frogs star being the best the 2016 NFL Draft has to offer, and he'd be a huge upgrade to the Bengals' receiving corps after Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones left this offseason.

Doctson has the potential to be significantly better than either of them, and could actually help the Bengals have a better receiver unit in 2016 than they did in 2015.

But again, getting Doctson or whoever teams view as the best receiver in this draft is going to be difficult for Cincinnati to pull off. With receiver-needy teams like the Vikings drafting ahead of the Bengals, a trade up may be needed to get Doctson.

And it's not just the Vikings that Cincinnati needs to worry about taking a receiver.  Between the Saints (12), Titans (15), Bills (19) and Texans (22), it's very possible the top 4-5 receivers are off the board by the time Cincinnati is on the clock. You could also toss the Giants (10) in there, though, they have bigger needs.

To sum it up, whichever wide receiver the Bengals have ranked highest on their big board is someone they're going to have to work hard to get and can't just sit and hope he falls to 24.

But is Doctson or any receiver in this draft worth trading up for in the eyes of the Bengals?
