With the 10th pick in the 2016 Cincy Jungle Community NFL Mock Draft, New York Giants GM, Mp3223, selects...
Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
I'm giving the Giants' organization the blessing of Ronnie Stanley. I believe the presence of Marshall Newhouse alone is enough to justify this pick and I am a TCU fan. Ranking as the 20th best o-line in 2015 might not seem that bad, but the truth is the rest of the Giants' offensive line isn't very good and there certainly isn't much depth. In pass blocking they ranked 24th which is an area Stanley can definitely help, but I believe Stanley also has the size, tools, and talent to be a good run blocker as well.
Stanley needs some technique work (based off of draft profiles I have read) but he at least has the size and athleticism where this isn't a big issue. Also, I believe this pick wouldn't be a reach as Stanley fits the mold of a good starting tackle and it also fits a need.
You can definitely make the argument that the Giants need A LOT of defensive picks but Eli Manning isn't getting any younger and there is no one behind him at quarterback so there is that to think about if you can't find good O-lineman. I just believe good tackles and guards are usually tough to find later in the draft and even the promising mid/late round prospects will need development. I feel those prospects will lack desirable size, talent, or will face a learning curve. Good defensive players will fall late this year and gems will be found so I believe even though defense wins championships, it can wait in the draft for the Giants this year. Picking Stanley could set up good for the Giants 2nd round pick as well. Picking 9th in the 2nd round I believe there is good reason to double dip if Cody Whitehair falls to that spot. I originally wanted to give the Giants A'Shawn Robinson but there is a high chance they get a great consolation prize in the second round because I believe Kenny Clark, Vernon Butler, Sheldon Rankins, or Andrew Billings (at least one of those) will fall to them in the second.
