Q&A with Bengals fifth round Draft pick Christian Westerman

Before the Bengals Drafted Christian Westerman in Round 5 of the 2016 NFL Draft, the team met with him many times and brought him in for a visit in Cincinnati. Clearly, the Bengals knew they wanted Westerman and luckily, he fell into their laps in Round 5 of the draft, a few rounds after many draft experts expected him to be picked. We spoke with Westerman to get a better sense for what he hopes to bring to the Bengals

Cincy Jungle: What was Draft weekend like for you? Where were you when you got the call from the Bengals?

Christian Westerman: Draft weekend was fun and stressful. It is a dream come true for me to play in the NFL. I spent the weekend with family and friends at my grandparents' house.

CJ: Were the Bengals on your radar? Had you met with the team or gotten a sense that they might Draft you?

CW: I admire the way the Bengals play football and I was very excited when I learned that they were interested in drafting me.  We met several times before the draft. I even had the opportunity to tour the facilities and meet the coaches on a visit to Cincinnati. 

CJ: What's one thing not many people know about you that you think Bengals fans would like to know?

CW: I love to fish and I hate to shop!!

CJ: How did ASU prepare you for the Bengals?

CW: My time at ASU gave the opportunity to continue to work hard on my game, and for my team, against some excellent competition.

CJ: Are you friends with Marcus Hardison? Or know Vontaze Burfict?

CW: Yes, Marcus and I are friends and teammates.  I do know Vontaze .

CJ: Are you excited to play on a team that consistently makes it to the playoffs?

CW: YES- I cannot wait to get to work with my teammates.

CJ: What are your goals for the next four years with the Bengals?

CW: To contribute in meaningful ways to help my team win championships!!

CJ: What are some of your hobbies outside of football?

I love to be outdoors-fishing, hunting and boating.

CJ: What position do you think you're best fit to play on the offensive line and do you have experience at each OL position?

I will play anywhere the coaches ask; I just want to play football for the Bengals.

CJ: Is there anything else you want Bengals fans to know?

CW: I am focused and I will work hard to help the team win championships.
