Bengals notes: Uzomah a workhorse; linemen react to rule changes
At the start of training camp, second-year tight C.J. Uzomah was asked about an increased role through the preseason with Pro Bowl starter Tyler Eifert being sidelined following ankle surgery. Then, this week, fellow second-year tight end Tyler Kroft injured a knee while undrafted free agent Matt Lengel also has missed practice. Ryan Hewitt also missed practices on Friday and Saturday’s mock game.
Tyler Boyd is used to this. Pulling a slippery double move. Floating ball in the air. High pointing a touchdown catch. The delight of the crowd and the backslaps of his teammates. This is what he’s been doing since he was seven years old as one of Pittsburgh’s more revered hometown heroes. From the hardscrabble fields of Clairton to the hillside of the University of Pittsburgh, he has always scored touchdowns.

Jones, Dupree key to ending Steelers' OLB rotation
In a perfect world, Bud Dupree and Jarvis Jones would be the guys. Period. No splitting snaps. No guess work. No series-by-series rotation. Nothing that resembled how the Steelers approached their outside linebacker position from a year ago.
Simone Biles' gold formula: artistry, athleticism and arithmetic
After a scoring error in the 2004 Olympics cast a cloud over Paul Hamm's all-around gold medal, the International Gymnastics Federation did away with the 10.0 scoring system and adopted a two-part, open-ended system that can produce scores in the 15s, 16s and, maybe someday, the 17s. Each difficulty score is unique, based on the value of the eight most complex skills in each men's and women's event. The old 10.0 scoring system measured difficulty and execution, too, but in a different fashion that, admittedly, less clearly reflected the difference between gymnasts. In 1976, for example, when Nadia Comaneci and Nelli Kim were scoring perfect 10s on uneven bars, balance beam and on floor, respectively, their margin of victory in each case was just a tenth of a point. The difficulty buffer was in sharpest focus at the USA Gymnastics Olympic Trials in July when Biles, in effect, had over a two-point lead before the competition began because she was performing a more challenging program than her competitors.
