If you look at the Cincinnati Bengals’ 1-3 preseason record, it doesn’t seem like much of an impressive output from a team that experienced both free agency attrition and injuries this offseason. However, if you look at the 13 overall points allowed by the defensive starters through the first three games and the high-quality play from the top two quarterbacks on the depth chart, the team is in much better shape than what is currently teeming on the surface.
In short, it was an ugly preseason finale between the Bengals and the Colts, with both teams’ only touchdowns coming in the final quarter of the contest. However, it isn’t the score that coaches pay attention to, it’s the specific performances of players who are attempting to cling to a final roster spot.
