Poll: Does Bengals OC Ken Zampese deserve to be back in 2017?

The Bengals’ embattled offensive coordinator should, at the very least, be on the hot seat this offseason.

There may not have been a more frustrating aspect of the Bengals’ 2016 season than the offense.

Time and time again, the offense showed plenty of promise and the potential to be great, only to fizzle out far too often when it mattered most. Nothing illustrates that more than the fact that Cincinnati finished 13th in total offense, but 24th in scoring offense.

The Bengals moved the ball plenty throughout the year, even when A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert were in and out of the lineup, but they failed to produce points. Zampese’s game-plans fizzled out far too often, despite consistently getting off to fast starts. After halftime, the offense too often failed to do much of anything, and it really hurt the team.

It didn’t help matters that Zampese's offensive line was one of the worst in the NFL in 2016, despite returning four starters from last year’s team. As bad as Cedric Ogbuehi was, he can’t be blamed for all of the issues Cincinnati had along the line.

To be fair to Zampese, Ogbuehi was really bad at right tackle, Clint Boling was injured for much of the year, and Russell Bodine is still awful. It didn’t help matters that Eifert missed half the season, while Green missed essentially the final seven games.

Still, if Zampese is calling plays again next year, it’s hard to see how this offense will get much better, even when Green and Eifert are back. Speaking of, their injuries will likely be used as the excuse made to bring Zampese back.

So we’ll ask you guys: Should Zampese be back next season?
