Hurricane Nate produced a lot of rain-soaked games this Sunday, and some of us felt the effects in our Week 5 picks. We collectively had a loss-soaked slate of selections this week as it was the first week nobody had more than 10 picks correct.
Braden and John A were our weekly winners by going 10-4 with their picks. The rest of us, correctly guessed anywhere from 5 to 9 games correctly. We all correctly picked the Patriots to win, and all but one of us picked the Eagles to win. Almost all of us incorrectly had the Giants defeating the Chargers, and and Steelers defeating the Jaguars. Although I’m sure few of us are upset that we missed the Steelers game. After five weeks, here are the standings.
- John S 50-27
- Jason 48-29
- Scott 45-32
- John A 45-32
- Mason 44-33
- Braden 44-33
- Alberto 43-34
- Patrick Judis 42-35
- Anthony 41-36
- Andrew Hamilton 39-38
The Bengals are on a bye in Week 5, but the NFL keeps on moving. There are 14 games this weekend, and here is how the Cincy Jungle contributors see those games unfolding.

We went heavily with the home teams in Week 6. Excluding the Patriots at Jets, since we seemingly never pick against the Patriots, two thirds of our picks were in favor of the home team. In five games this week (Dolphins at Atlanta, 49ers at Redskins, Browns at Texans, Steelers at Chiefs, and Giants at Broncos) we went with an overwhelming 98 percent support for the home teams in our picks.
We also seem to pick against teams who are missing their starting quarterback. The Vikings (without Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford) and the Raiders (without Derek Carr) only garnered support in 28 percent of our picks. The Colts and Titans are both missing their starting quarterbacks too, but since they play each other, they get thrown out. If you include the Browns, our support for teams without a starting quarterback drops to 22 percent, but of course the Browns haven’t gone without a starting quarterback for two decades due to a recent injury, but because of their drafting, so they get thrown out, too.
