Dalton had about as good of a day as you could ask from a quarterback. He threw four touchdowns with no interceptions while completing 25 of his 30 pass attempts (83.3%). This led to Dalton earning a 146.0 passer rating for the day. Easily, it was his best performance of the season.
He also wasn’t overly cautious with the ball like in Week 3 against Green Bay. Dalton gave Tyler Kroft the opportunity to do his best Tyler Eifert impersonation by catching a touchdown in between a linebacker and safety in the endzone. And, Kroft tacked on a second touchdown, too.
Cam Newton and Deshaun Watson are also nominated for the award. Newton threw three touchdowns and one interception on his way to upsetting the New England Patriots. Watson put on a show in Houston and finished the day with five touchdowns, one of which was a rushing touchdown. He also had an interception, but was a very efficient 29 of 34 (73.5%) against the Titans.
It is hard to see Dalton winning the award over Newton and Watson when they played tougher games. Watson is viewed as a pretty great story considering Houston is still rebuilding after the hurricane. Newton also upset the Patriots in New England, and he did it with a clutch drive to set up a last second field goal. If you really want to see Dalton win, you need to vote, and if you want to vote for Dalton you can do that here.
After the way this season started, it is nice to see Dalton being recognized nationally. It is also nice to see Bill Lazor has gotten Dalton comfortable enough in this offense to be up for an award like this. Sure it was against the Browns, but out of 32 quarterbacks this week, Dalton was viewed as one of the best.
