Bengals at Jaguars NFL Week 9 inactives: Leonard Fournette, John Ross and Jeremy Hill out

The Bengals had most of their 53-man roster healthy for this game, leading to some interesting active/inactive decisions.

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced their inactives list for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It includes the Bengals’ two injured players who were already ruled out for Week 9. And, a whole lot of surprises.

For Cincinnati, the following players are out:

  • Wide receiver Tyler Boyd
  • Running back Jeremy Hill
  • Wide receiver John Ross
  • Linebacker Kevin Minter
  • Offensive lineman Alex Redmond
  • Offensive lineman Christian Westerman
  • Kicker Randy Bullock

Randy Bullock entered the day listed as questionable with a back injury, which led to the team signing Marshall Koehn. That’s why it’s no surprise seeing Bullock inactive today.

The Bengals had a big conundrum at wide receiver with everyone but Tyler Boyd healthy. The Bengals typically keep just five receivers active, which meant a good player was going to be a healthy scratch today.

That turned out to be first round rookie John Ross, who continues to be one of the most disappointing stories of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Another surprising move made was Jeremy Hill being inactive. He apparently suffered an injury during pregame warmups, so the team made him inactive as a result. That means Joe Mixon will start today for the Bengals today. Mixon has played the majority of running back snaps this season, but has never started.

For the Jaguars, the following players are out this week:

  • Wide receiver Jaelen Strong
  • Running back Leonard Fournette
  • Cornerback Tyler Patmon
  • Defensive tackle Sheldon Day
  • Offensive lineman Josh Walker
  • Offensive lineman William Poehls
  • Offensive lineman AJ Cann

The Jaguars entered the day with most of their 53-man roster healthy, but there was concern if starting linemen AJ Cann and Cam Robinson could play. Cann is out, but Robinson will play.

However, the Jaguars made a surprising decision to make Leonard Fournette inactive after he reportedly broke a team rule. That means TJ Yeldon and Chris Ivory will be the main running backs today. That should, in theory, be a big help for the Bengals’ defense.
