Adam Jones has been ruled out for the rest of the game. That’s a bad sign that the groin injury is pretty serious.
With him out, William Jackson, Darqueze Dennard and Dre Kirkpatrick are the top three cornerbacks, while Josh Shaw will also get limited snaps.
Keivarae Russell is a healthy scratch, so the Bengals have just four healthy corners for the rest of the game.
The Cincinnati Bengals have already lost a starter just one series into their matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It came on Pittsburgh’s first offensive drive, where Adam Jones intercepted Ben Roethlisberger near midfield. It was a great diving grab by Jones, but after the play, Jones was writhing in pain on the field before being attended to by trainers.
After Jones was examined briefly, he walked off the field and into the locker room for further testing. The team has since announced Jones has a groin injury and is questionable to return.
If Jones ended up missing the rest of the game, it’s not necessarily a big loss for Cincinnati. William Jackson and Darqueze Dennard have played great this season, and they’re actually the team’s top two cornerbacks in Pro Football Focus’ grading system.
Those two will play more if Jones is out, but this is still a significant loss against a Pittsburgh team that is loaded with talented pass-catchers.
We’ll update this story as more details come out.
