Joe Mixon forced from Bengals vs Steelers game with head, shoulder injury

Joe Mixon took a nasty shot to the head and was concussed from it.

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced that Joe Mixon is out for the remainder of the game with a concussion. That means Giovani Bernard and Brian Hill will have to finish the game at running back against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cincinnati Bengals are holding their breath after watching their star rookie go down with an injury.

Late in the second quarter of the team’s Week 13 matchup with the Steelers, Joe Mixon was hit hard in the helmet on a run play, then was briefly motionless on the ground after the whistle blew.

After staying on the ground while being examined by trainers, Mixon eventually got up and walked off the field, seemingly fine. He went into the medical tent and then the locker room for further examinations, which likely include concussion testing, though that doesn’t mean he has a concussion.

The team has announced that Mixon is being evaluated for head and shoulder injuries and his return is questionable.

That would be a brutal loss for Cincinnati if that turns out to be the case, as Mixon was having a big game against the Steelers, which helped the Bengals build a quick 10-0 lead.

We’ll update this story as more details come out.
