Dre Kirkpatrick in NFL concussion protocol

An awful game by Dre Kirkpatrick compounded by a head injury.

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Dre Kirkpatrick had a night to forget in the Bengals’ loss to the Steelers.

The embattled cornerback was shredded for four quarters while committing a host of penalties, which helped the Steelers storm back from a 17-0 deficit to claim a 23-20 victory.

It was about as bad of a game as you’ll ever see by a starting NFL cornerback.

After the game, Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Paul Dehner tweeted that Kirkpatrick was in the NFL concussion protocol. It likely happened on the same play in which Vontaze Burfict was knocked out by Juju Smith-Schuster.

Thankfully, it appears Kirkpatrick made it out of the game without suffering further damage. Playing in an NFL game after a concussion in that same game can be very risky for further damage. Hopefully Kirkpatrick is doing OK.

Both Darqueze Dennard and William Jackson showed a lot of promise in this game, as they have throughout the season. Those two should be the starting boundary corners for the rest of what’s become a lost season. Kirkpatrick may be getting the big dollars, but he’s done nothing to earn them or playing time ahead of better corners.
