During the broadcast of Monday’s clash between the Bengals and Steelers, ESPN’s announcers made some eye-opening comments about Marvin Lewis.

Lost in the shuffle of the Bengals’ Monday debacle were some interesting comments by ESPN announcers Sean McDonough and Jon Gruden.

Early in the first half, McDonough spoke about the interactions he and Gruden had with Lewis in preparation for Monday’s game.

It’s standard procedure for announcers to spend time with the coaches and players of a game they’re about to broadcast.

However, what McDonough said during the broadcast was pretty eye-opening about Lewis’ status for 2018.

“He (Lewis) was pretty candid when we spoke with him yesterday. You almost got the feeling that he is anticipating this is going to be his last year,” said McDonough. “He (Lewis) said, ‘Hey, I was brought here to win championships, and we haven’t done that.’”

Gruden didn’t offer much of a retort, though he did add, “we’ll see what happens in four weeks.”

‘We'll see’ is something Bengals fans and media have heard far too often from Lewis about various things. Perhaps the Bengals will starting ‘doing’ the right thing and find a new coach as we head into 2018.
