The pick is in: the Cincinnati Bengals have selected Washington receiver John Ross with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Ross’ selection can be an indicator of several things, most notably that Cincinnati has the speed people have hoped the team would add opposite A.J. Green on the perimeter. With Green, Brandon LaFell, Tyler Boyd, Cody Core and even Alex Erickson all contributing last year, Ross’ addition turns an already good receiving corps into one that could potentially be great.

The downside, of course, is that there are serious questions about Ross’ durability. The receiver doesn’t have ideal NFL size and also has an extensive injury history. When he was in Washington, Ross tore his ACL and right meniscus, missing an entire season as a result. He’s also dealt with a significant shoulder injury and could potentially miss time early on due to that shoulder injury, though it’s worth mentioning Marvin Lewis believes Ross will be back by the regular season. Ross also said that he believes he’ll be cleared by July and ready for training camp.
