This past season, Lechler was named to the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference First-Team while playing right tackle. He started every game there during the 2014 and 2015 seasons as well.
The Bengals need a lot of help along their offensive line but didn’t add much depth there in the draft with just Utah tackle/center J.J. Dielman selected during the draft.
A 6-foot-7, 273 pound mammoth, Lechler has extensive starting experience at right tackle. He will compete for a backup spot on the roster along with Dielman and the current group of linemen.
Here’s an excerpt from his Draft Analyst profile:
Large, wide-bodied blocker best in a small area. Sets with a wide base, stays square and keeps defenders in front of him. Fires off the snap into blocks, quickly reaches the second level and effectively gets his hands into defenders then steers them from the action. Anchors in pass protection and shows the ability to control opponents at the point of attack.
