Ohio State WR Corey Smith signing with Bengals as UDFA, per report

The Cincinnati Bengals are adding an OSU receiver and special teams ace to the roster in undrafted free agency.

The Cincinnati Bengals are adding an Ohio State University product to the roster following the completion of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Wide receiver Corey Smith took part in the Bengals' local pro day on April 18 and now he'll be headed back to Cincinnati to try and make an impact among a very packed wide receiver unit.

Smith was initially a transfer to OSU from East Mississippi Community College but came over to Ohio State in 2014, when the Buckeyes won the National Championship. He caught 20 passes for 255 yards in his first season in Columbus, but in 2015 and 2016 he had a much lesser impact, failing to record more than 100 yards in either season.

His 2015 season actually became a medical redshirt year after he broke his leg in Week 5 of the season. In 2016 he simply was unable to crack the wide receiver lineup, which will likely be the case in Cincinnati, too.

The Bengals’ wide receiver roster now includes A.J. Green, Brandon LaFell, Tyler Boyd, Cody Core, Alex Erickson and 2016 draft picks John Ross and Josh Malone, among other depth players.

Contingent on passing a physical upon his arrival in Cincinnati, Smith will compete this offseason for a chance to make the Bengals’ 53-man roster in September.
