After each selection was made in the 2017 NFL Draft, we polled you, the Bengals fanbase, on how you would grade each pick the Bengals made in the draft. If you haven’t voted yet, you can below!
But, in the meantime, let’s take a look at the results of how each of the first three picks —wide receiver John Ross, running back Joe Mixon and defensive end Jordan Willis—were received by the fans.
Interestingly enough, the Ross selection received the least percentage of A grades of any of the first three picks. 7% of fans were bold enough to give this selection a failing grade. Many felt the value wasn’t there to draft a top 10 receiver, and because of that, grades were wide ranging. But, as Dave Lapham indicated before the draft, the Bengals got exactly who they wanted in Round 1. So for Cincinnati, I believe this was a win and can’t wait to see Ross scoring touchdowns.

The Mixon selection was surprisingly better received than that of Ross. Mixon has first round talent, but his off-the-field red flags are what pushed him to the second round. Many Bengals fans are ready to give Mixon a second chance, which is why 60% of fans gave this draft choice an A. But, there’s also a group of Bengals fans who are frustrated and angered by the pick. At Cincy Jungle, we’ve received many messages from fans who say they’re done with the team or canceling their season tickets. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and you can assume those people fall into the 15% who gave the Mixon selection an F.

Wow, who would have thought the Bengals’ third round selection would be the best received pick among the first three? 71% of fans were happy enough with the selection of Kansas State defensive end Jordan Willis to give the pick an A. That makes sense as he came at a great value, fills a need and seems like an all-around great guy. I expect Willis to become a fan favorite in Cincinnati once people get a sense for what a down-to-earth, hard worker he is. Only 1% of fans gave this pick a failing grade (seriously, WHY is it even 1%) and 97% of fans graded the pick either an A or B. That’s pretty awesome to see and I hope Willis lives up to expectations (I think he will!).
