Week 2 of the preseason can’t get past the Bengals fast enough.
After losing starting safety Shawn Williams to a bad first quarter injury and giving an embarrassing performance against the Chiefs at home on Saturday, Cincinnati accrued another injury to a defensive player. Linebacker Hardy Nickerson, Jr. suffered what was deemed a lower back injury on a tackle.

Nickerson did end up walking off of the field after a few scary moments, but this definitely looked ugly upon first glance. Before he left the game, Nickerson did have three assisted tackles on the evening.
There isn’t word yet on the severity of this injury and the fact that he walked off the field also brings optimism about the outlook. Nickerson is grinding for a roster spot against the likes of P.J. Dawson, Marquis Flowers and others.
Nickerson was an undrafted player out of the University of Illinois. His father was a well-respected NFL linebacker who played 16 years in the league.
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more on this injury.
