Bengals roster breakdown, 90-in-90: John Ross

Don't look now, but the fastest player in the league is close to making his debut.

All signs point to John Ross making his NFL debut this Sunday when the Bengals take on the Redskins. Andy Dalton and A.J. Green have both expressed they believe it's happening, even if Marvin Lewis isn’t ready to admit it. If we seem impatient, you should know we're not alone. Ross' exciting style of play has a lot of fans counting down the days to see him play.

So what are some of the most exciting things about Ross?

John Ross

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 188 pounds

College: Washington

Hometown: Long Beach, CA

Experience: Rookie

Cap Status

Ross signed a four-year, $17 million contract with the Bengals after being drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. His cap hit this year will be $3,111,975, according to Spotrac.

Background

Ross looked unstoppable his final year in college, totaling 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns receiving. He then proceeded to break the all-time record for the 40 yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. With his transcendent athleticism, Ross was scooped up with the ninth pick in the draft. With that, there were questions as to whether Cincinnati reached, especially due to his injury concerns. Ross missed the entire 2015 season at Washington due to a torn ACL. And he had surgery to repair a torn labrum shortly after Washington's pro day. If Ross can avoid injuries, he will soon become one of the most dangerous offensive players in the NFL.

Ross' presence will create major issues for opposing defenses. Teams that play Cover 1 with one high safety will have to gamble with one side, hoping Green or Ross doesn't burn them. And Ross and Tyler Eifert should be able to attack the seams against Cover 2 or Cover 4. With Ross on the field, Dalton should be able to pick apart defenses with relative ease.

Roster chances

Finally fully healthy, Ross is nearing a return on the field. And while he is unlikely to secure a starting spot across from Green, he is guaranteed a spot on the roster.

Roster Odds: 100 percent.
