Bengals vs Redskins: Nick Vigil set to square off against his brother

Vigil gets a chance to go up against his brother, Zach (kind of) in a preseason matchup against the Redskins on Sunday.

Nick Vigil isn’t the only Vigil trying to make a name for himself in the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals linebacker’s older brother Zach is vying for a roster spot with the Washington Redskins, the Bengals’ opponent for the upcoming preseason game on Sunday afternoon.

The Vigil brothers both played together at Utah State and formed a dynamic linebacking duo, both earning first team All-Mountain West honors. They’ll once again be on the same field on Sunday, but in different uniforms this time. Nick seems to be excited to play against his brother, saying “it’s going to be fun”.

Nick gave his older brother Zach credit for his love for football, and sports in general, saying he was one of the reasons Nick started playing football.

“We competed as little kids against each other all the time, just in the backyard and all that,” Nick said of his relationship with his brother.

Since it’s just the preseason, their family will likely be rooting for each player to have a good game rather than the for the Bengals or Redskins specifically.

Zach was on the Miami Dolphins last year, but spent the year on Injured Reserve, not active when the Bengals played the Dolphins in Week 4. This year, Nick’s spot on the Bengals’ roster is safe as he is expected to be the starter at strongside linebacker. Meanwhile, Zach is the third string middle linebacker in Washington and fighting for his roster spot.

Here’s to both Vigil brothers playing well on Sunday afternoon, and of course, a Bengals win!
