UPDATE
After Jake Fisher started the second half, he gave up a sack on Cincinnati’s first possession, then was benched for the second series and replaced with Andre Smith. fisher is having a terrible game after struggling in the first two games.
The Cincinnati Bengals got the ball back against the Green Bay Packers late in the second quarter of play, with a two touchdown lead, but left tackle Cedric Ogbuehi didn’t come onto the field with the rest of his teammates. Instead, Andre Smith, who the Bengals signed in free agency after a year-long stint with the Minnesota Vikings, took Ogbuehi’s place at left tackle on the line. This replacement came after Smith took Jake Fisher’s place at the right tackle spot on the previous drive.
The Bengals did not use Smith in the first two games of the season, but seem to be trying him out on the offensive line to decide if it’s worth playing him at tackle instead of one of the younger tackles. Smith signed a large one-year deal this offseason to play guard, but the experiment failed and he’s been on the bench this season to date.
On the ensuing drive, Ogbuehi returned to his left tackle spot and Andre Smith took a seat on the pine. The Bengals did go three and out, but Ogbuehi did well in limiting what the defensive line from Green Bay could do.
It seems the Bengals are experimenting with their options as there’s been a rotation at cornerback, too, with Darqueze Dennard, William Jackson and Josh Shaw all getting playing time there.
The Bengals lead 21-7 at halftime.
