The Cincinnati Bengals are keeping Marvin Lewis.
To the surprise of many, Lewis scored a two-year contract extension with the Bengals, even after reports he was set to leave the franchise this offseason. Whatever changed, it was enough for Lewis to get a new deal through the 2019 season.
That means if Lewis finishes out his new contract, he’ll have coached the Bengals for 17 seasons. The only current coach that’s been with his team longer than Lewis is Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots.
But Belichick has won five Super Bowls, while Lewis has yet to win a playoff game. That’s why Bengals fans and national media are in an uproar over the decision to keep Lewis.
All told, there’s nothing we can do now other than accept that Lewis is head coach of the Bengals. Use this stream to keep track of everything related to the decision to keep Lewis, as well as can assistant-coaching news that emerges in the coming weeks.
