The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed two coaches on Saturday. For as much as the organization is starting from scratch, there is much familiarity with how the coaching staff looks. It should be noted that the Bengals rarely confirm individual signings until their entire coaching staff is signed; defensive coordinator would probably be the exception in this scenario.
- Linebackers coach Jim Haslett is returning in 2018, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Haslett, an experienced candidate for the defensive coordinator vacancy, will resume his duties as the linebackers coach.
- Alex Marvez with the Sporting News initially reported on Saturday that defensive line coach Jacob Burney would not return in 2018. However, ESPN reported later the same day that Burney will return with a two-year deal.
- The search for a new defensive coordinator is taking time; after all, you want to get it right. Cincinnati reportedly interviewed Teryl Austin last week, but was denied a request by the Chicago Bears to speak with Vic Fangio. However, Fangio’s contract with Chicago expires on Tuesday, allowing him to speak with whomever he wants.
Here’s what we know, presented in table-form (if there’s anything missing, drop a line in the comments):
