At 4-1, the Bengals are having a successful start to the 2018 NFL season, but Week 6 could be their first real measuring stick game. The Steelers have consistently been one of Cincinnati’s biggest roadblocks, but what do the oddsmakers and experts think of this big divisional matchup?

Odds

The Bengals are currently 1.5-point favorites against the Steelers, according to Bovada. The Bengals opened as three-point favorites so the line is moving pretty quickly toward Pittsburgh. It could just be that the way people are betting is trying to entice people to take the Bengals as people probably flocked to bet the Steelers with a three-point advantage.

The over under is currently set to 51.5. That is a pretty high number for this rivalry as they haven’t surpassed 50 points in their past five meetings.

Here are some trends for both teams

  • Cincinnati is 6-1 against the spread in its last seven games
  • Cincinnati is 6-1 straight up in its last seven games
  • The total has gone over in five of Cincinnati’s last six games
  • Cincinnati is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games at home
  • Cincinnati is 6-2 straight up in its last eight games at home

  • Pittsburgh is 3-9 against the spread in its last 12 games
  • Pittsburgh is 12-4-1 straight up in its last 17 games
  • Pittsburgh is 2-3-1 straight up in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone over in six of Pittsburgh’s last seven games
  • Pittsburgh is 7-0-1 straight up in its last eight games on the road
  • The total has gone under in 18 of Pittsburgh’s last 24 games on the road

Experts picks

  • Fox sports is projecting a 23.3-21.6 victory for the Steelers
  • Five of ESPN’s experts picked the Bengals over the Steelers
  • Five of SB Nation’s experts also went with Cincinnati
  • Only one of CBS Sports’ experts picked the Bengals
  • NFL Pick Watch, which takes into account picks from across the web, has the Bengals receiving 59 percent of the picks

The experts seemed pretty split. It makes sense when the Bengals haven’t beaten the Steelers in a few years, but Pittsburgh looks like they are beatable, and it isn’t like the Bengals haven’t been close. If the Bengals win here it could go a long way into converting some of these experts into believers.
