Update: Carl Lawson has been declared out of the game. Additionally, Clint Boling has been ruled out with a back injury.

The Cincinnati Bengals defense stepped up on their first series of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but they lost a key player in the process.

Defensive end Carl Lawson exited the game with a knee injury and will not return. That’s a very bad sign for the Bengals’ defender in both the short- and long-term. Luckily, the Bengals do have a bye next week.

In the same drive, defensive end Michael Johnson also left the field for a few plays but returned. Sam Hubbard replaced Johnson in his absence.

The Bengals are already down several players on defense, so this is an unfortunate addition to the injury list.
