Bengals’ Super Bowl odds rise after win over Bucs

It’s a far cry from where the Bengals were when the 2018 season began.

When the 2018 NFL season began, the Bengals were tied with the Buccaneers for the worst odds to win the Super Bowl.

Ironically enough, the Bengals just beat the Buccaneers in thrilling fashion, and it now has the good guys’ Super Bowl odds rising as they hit the bye week.

On Aug. 31, the Bengals had +9000 odds to win the Super Bowl. Last week, that number was +4500. After the 37-34 thriller against Tampa Bay, Cincinnati now has +4000 odds to win it all, which are the 16th-best odds.

Sure, being the middle in the middle of the regular season is by no means the best spot to be, but it’s a far cry from where this team was in the offseason. Many experts projected the Bengals to finish 2018 with one of the 3-5 worst records in football.

But at 5-3 and having a favorable second-half schedule, the Bengals are in prime position to finish with a winning record and one of 12 spots in the NFL playoffs.

Sure, the record could be better (see Pittsburgh loss), but it could just as easily be worse (see Atlanta, Indianapolis and Tampa Bay wins). The Bengals have a lot of issues they need to fix, but fans should be happy with how far this team has come after back-to-back losing seasons.
