Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick suffers concussion vs. Saints

New, comments

Another Bengals starter goes down.

The Bengals have suffered their first major injury of the day vs. the Saints.

It came late in the second quarter when Dre Kirkpatrick was forced from the game with what has since been reported as a concussion. He has already been ruled out, and he’ll now enter the league’s concussion protocol, which could mean he misses next week vs. the Ravens.

This is really bad news for a Bengals defense with starters dropping like flies. Vontaze Burfict, Darqueze Dennard, Carl Lawson and Nick Vigil are already out, so losing Kirkpatrick means as many as six major players could be out going forward.

That helps explain how the Saints rung up 35 first-half points on the Bengals. With Kirkpatrick out, it means Darius Phillips, Tony McRae and Keivarae Russell will be playing more today and potentially going forward, depending on how long Kirkpatrick is out.

This game has been nothing short of a disaster for Cincinnati.
