Poll: Will the Bengals bring back Adam Jones for the 2018 NFL season?

Do you think the Bengals will bring back Adam Jones in 2018?

Adam Jones has had a wild NFL career. He started out with the Titans, and after a few suspensions and a stint with the Cowboys, he ended up with the Bengals. He slowly but surely revived his career in Cincinnati that reached the pinnacle in 2015 when he made the Pro Bowl.

It seems to be clear though that the Bengals have found his replacement in William Jackson, who had a tremendous season last year. The Bengals also have Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard to fill out their corner positions. This leaves Jones as a very expensive odd man out.

Jones is going into the final year of his contract in 2018, and he will carry a $6.9 million cap hit with him. That is a fairly big hit for a player who probably won’t see too much game time in 2018.

Kirkpatrick, Dennard and Jackson combine for a little over $20 million in cap space, and the idea of the Bengals entering 2018 with over $26 million of the projected $188 million cap committed to just the corner position is pretty hard to believe.

Jones also finished last season on Injured Reserve after picking of Ben Roethlisberger and suffering a groin injury on the return. He also just underwent surgery. This could effect his status with the team going into next year.

The area Jones can still help this team is punt returning. Last year he had several explosive returns, including one for a touchdown that was called back by a phantom call. Alex Erickson hasn’t done much returning punts, and with Jones not needed as much on defense he could become a full time punt returner for the team. Although that cap number really doesn’t fit that role.

What do you think though?
