2018 Draft Results: Cincinnati Bengals select Virginia defensive tackle Andrew Brown in Round 5

The Bengals add some depth to the middle of their defensive line by adding Andrew Brown from Virginia.

NCAA Football: Virginia at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Bengals used their second fifth-round selection 158th overall to take Virginia Cavaliers defensive lineman Andrew Brown.

This pick was part of the mid-round pick swapping between the Bengals and Bills that was part of the Cordy Glenn trade.

The Bengals were expected to take a defensive tackle sometime on Day 3 with Geno Atkins set to hit free agency next year. Pat Sims is still a free agent, and Andrew Billings hasn’t proven he can be a reliable contributor.

Brown compiled 26.5 tackles for a loss and 10.5 sacks in four years at Virginia. He also batted down four passes, recovered a fumble and forced one. He didn’t show the elite level of explosion at the college level, which is probably why he slid this far in the draft.

Brown was regarded as one of the top defensive tackles coming into Day 3, so this is a solid pick for the Bengals.
