Bengals injury roundup following loss to Colts

Burfict will end up missing the entire preseason in addition to the first four regular-season games.

The preseason is over, but the final game took its toll on the Bengals’ roster.

Matt Barkley

One Bengal who likely had his fate sealed due to injury was quarterback Matt Barkley. He had been competing for the backup spot with Jeff Driskel, but he was knocked out of the Bengals final preseason game with a left knee injury. Meanwhile, Driskel came in and played fairly well after Barkley.

Trayvon Henderson

Another scary looking injury happened near the end of the game. Undrafted rookie safety Trayvon Henderson made a huge interception, but on the return he fell to the ground in agony without being touched, which is usually an awful sign. On top of that, he had to be carted off of the field. Given the timing of rosters being cut down, we should see Henderson end up on the injured reserve list.

“You just hate to see it. It’s hard to watch,” safety Shawn Williams said via Bengals.com. “Guy does everything right. Good kid. Then in the last few minutes, that happens.”

Tyrice Beverette

Fellow rookie safety Tyrice Beverette also got injured at some point during the game, but the Bengals haven’t released too many details yet about his injury. He is clinging to hopes of making the practice squad at this point.

Cethan Carter

Tight end/h-back Cethan Carter was also knocked out of the game in the middle of the second quarter. He suffered a shoulder injury that didn’t allow him to return. He was fighting for a 53-man roster spot, but this could put that in jeopardy. It could end up being good new for Ryan Hewitt, whose future was in question after being relatively quite during the preseason.

Mark Walton

Fourth-round running back Mark Walton also suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury. He has had a very rough preseason, and his odds of making the 53-man roster are in question after he has been clearly out-played by Tra Carson and Brian Hill. He is said to be fine.

Vontaze Burfict

Vontaze Burfict continues to be out, which isn’t a good sign after he suffered an ankle injury during a Monday practice leading up to the Dallas game in Week 2 of the preseason. It clearly was a significant injury, though he’s already suspended for the first four games, so he’s still got plenty of time to recover before he’s eligible to play again. That said, he wasn’t going to play on Thursday and wasn’t dressed.

Vincent Rey

Vincent Rey is still recovering from his ankle injury suffered in the first preseason game. He’s been seen working on the rehab field recently, a good sign that he’s set to return soon.

Davontae Harris

Rookie cornerback Davontae Harris is battling a knee injury suffered in Dallas, and it’s unclear how serious it is. He was already struggling to stand out and is in real danger of being waived during final cuts, despite being a fifth-round pick this year. There’s also a good chance he lands on Injured/Reserve.

Cody Core

Wide receiver Cody Core remains sidelined with an undisclosed injury and he is unlikely to make the 53-man roster. He did get some work on the rehab field this week, but he has not practiced for several weeks now. Core needed to play in the final preseason game to have any real shot at making it through final cuts. It’s going to be very hard to justify keeping him.
