The Bengals are slowly getting their roster trimmed to 53 men ahead of Saturday’s deadline to do so.
The latest player to get waived is running back Jarveon Williams. The team announced Friday that Williams was being waived with an injury settlement.
It’s a tough break for Williams, who suffered a knee injury against the Bills in Week 3 of the preseason. It’s unclear how severe the injury is, but it’s clearly enough that the team needed to give him an injury settlement.
Once he’s healthy, he could resurface with another team, though there’s an outside chance he’ll eventually get signed to the Bengals’ practice squad, though that looks unlikely now with guys like Quinton Flowers and possibly Brian Hill vying for a spot there.
Williams joined the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of UT San Antonio in 2017. A good preseason helped him earn a spot on the practice squad and later 53-man roster when injuries hit the position. He appeared in one game.
