The Cincinnati Bengals are waiving Damion Willis and re-signing Anthony Zettel, head coach Zac Taylor announced Wednesday.
Willis opened the season as a starting wide receiver, but he’s fallen out of favor as the year has worn on. He’s barely played over the last month as Alex Erickson and Auden Tate have established themselves as the No. 2 and 3 receivers next to Tyler Boyd. This also means Stanley Morgan will get more snaps moving forward as the fourth receiver.
Also, A.J. Green should be returning soon, making it easier to part ways with Willis, who the team will undoubtedly try to sign to the practice squad.
As for Zettel, he was was signed by the team late last week after they suspended left tackle Cordy Glenn for Sunday’s game for internal disciplinary reasons. On Sunday, Zettel played 30 snaps all over the Bengals’ defensive line. He was acting as the defense’s third defensive end with both Carlos Dunlap and Carl Lawson out of the lineup.
On Monday, the team activated Glenn back to the 53-man roster and waived Zettel, so it’s a little odd they’re re-signing him two days later.
