It’s good to know that Zac Taylor is a man of his word.
Taylor has declared multiple times that Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green was not on the trading block.
“There was speculation about A.J.,” Taylor said in his news conference last week, “and I wanted to make it clear that he’s not going anywhere, and he’s staying here.”
Sunday, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports confirmed as much.
“Teams also called about Cincy WR AJ Green and have been told they aren’t trading him,” Glazer reported.
Green, who is in the last year of his contract, has not played all season after suffering an ankle injury in the second game of the preseason.
It is a little surprising that Cincinnati is not at least listening to offers on the ninth-year pro. Green has been beset by injury the last couple of years and has missed 21 games over the past four seasons.
And it is particularly surprising considering the fact that Mohamed Sanu, a third-round selection of the Bengals in 2012 who spent the last four years with the Falcons, garnered a second-round selection in his recent trade to the Patriots.
But Cincinnati, and particularly Mike Brown, has a reputation of loyalty to its players, and are standing by one of the team’s best players. The next step is an extension, which hopefully gets done soon.
