The Cincinnati Bengals have signed free agent wide receiver Trenton Irwin to the practice squad.
Irwin, who measures in at 6-2 and 207 pounds, is a rookie out of Stanford who originally signed as a college free agent with the Miami Dolphins on May 5. The Dolphins waived him on Sept. 1.
Coming into the 2020 NFL Draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein gave Irwin a 4.97 grade and a ‘priority free agent’ projection. Here is some of what Zierlein had to say about Irwin:
Strengths
Caught 77.5 percent of the targets thrown his way
Good stutter-step quickness in his feet
Really sells his double moves
Gives additional jab step before stem to throw coverage off-balance
Weaknesses
Averaged just one touchdown per 30 catches during career
Squatting corners detour his routes
Feet are fast but routes are inefficient at times
Excessive settle steps to slow and open on comebacks
Irwin fills the open practice squad position created yesterday, when the Bengals signed WR Stanley Morgan to the active roster from the practice squad.
